Evangeline: Filly brings fastest time into Evangeline Downs Futurity

Jetblack Gold Moment will be seeking her fourth straight win in Saturday night’s $167,425 Evangeline Downs Quarter Horse Futurity. She is the fastest qualifier for the 400-yard race and one of two fillies in the 10-horse field, the other being A Zoomin Fortune.

Jetblack Gold Moment began her streak in June, when she won an allowance at Delta Downs. She proceeded to win a trial at Retama Park in July, but did not run back until the Nov. 24 trials for the Evangeline Futurity. Jetblack Gold Moment won her 400-yard qualifier in 19.78 seconds, scoring by 1 1/2 lengths. Danny Lavergne was aboard, and again has the mount for trainer Kenneth Roberts.

Jetblack Gold Moment will be seeking her first stakes win. In her lone stakes outing she missed by a nose in the Grade 3 Harrah’s Futurity at Louisiana Downs in March.

The chief threat is Rc Had to Be My Day, who will add Lasix after winning his trial in 20.15 seconds. Earlier this year, he won the Grade 3 Juvenile Challenge at Sam Houston and also ran third in the Grade 2 Juvenile Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows.

I See Visions set the second-fastest qualifying time for the Evangeline Futurity when he won his trial in 19.87 seconds. The third fastest time was 20.03, registered by Shazooms Love, who edged A Zoomin Fortune.

The Quarter Horse season will end Dec. 20 with an 870-yard turf stakes, the $35,000 Au Revoir.
