Evangeline Downs track report

CARENCRO, La. - Fillies and mares take center stage in the $40,000 Tellike Handicap. The six-furlong race drew a field of seven, headed by highweight Kylers Midge at 119 pounds.

Kylers Midge paid immediate dividends for trainer David Baker after he claimed the 5-year-old mare for James Hutzel for $30,000 at Oaklawn on March 28. Making her first start for her new connections in allowance company here on April 17, Kylers Midge led at every pole to win by just over a length. She finished in front of Power of Dreams and Highhopesemilyluck, both of whom she will face again Saturday. Mario Reyes will ride Kylers Midge.

Rated a pound behind Kylers Midge, at 118, is Light Fling. Trained by Doris Hebert, and owned by Hebert and Carey Roussel, Light Fling won the five-furlong Mademoiselle Stakes at Delta Downs on March 26 - at 10-1. In her return on April 24, she again took little money and ran second to the talented Fuse It in an allowance race. Never worse than second at Evangeline Downs, she has a strong chance to win Saturday. Steve Bourque will be in the saddle.

Midnight Delight is going for her third consecutive victory, while racing over her third different oval. Making rapid progress through her conditions, the Howard Alonzo-trained runner defeated allowance foes at both Fair Grounds and Delta Downs earlier in the year. She will be making her local debut in the Tellike, and Kerwin Clark will ride.
