Evangeline Downs track report

LAFAYETTE, La. - Unbeaten and untested Copper Ripple runs in a stakes for the first time in the $35,000 Inaugural Handicap at Evangeline Downs.

The six-furlong race drew a field of seven 3-year-olds, including Mike 'n Doc, a stakes veteran and the highweight.

Copper Ripple, trained by Steve Asmussen, debuted with a splash at Fair Grounds in February, leading every step in a six-furlong maiden race, which he ran in 1:10.65. He then journeyed to Delta Downs, where he defeated allowance foes by more than 12 lengths with that meeting's leading rider, Steve Bourque, up. Bourque will again be in the saddle Saturday at 118 pounds.

Mike 'n Doc, who will be giving Copper Ripple two pounds, also is coming off a recent win at Delta. After stalking the pace in the Au Revoir Stakes on March 23, Mike 'n Doc took over entering the stretch and prevailed by a length. That win was his third from seven starts. He is trained by Ann Watermeier.

Completing the field are Lonely Concorde, 117 pounds; Uriah's Beginning, 114; Gettarman, 112; Zina Cause, 114; and Bad Hock Rock, 115.
