Evangeline Downs: 'Ten Times' wins

LAFAYETTE, La. - Ten Times Better validated his runaway trial win two weeks ago by capturing the $93,500 D.S. "Shine" Young Futurity by almost three lengths. Streak of Smoke, who shook clear in the turn of the five-furlong race for Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds, proved no match for the winner and had to settle for second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of 50-1 longshot Sudanas Finest.

Owned and bred by Jerry Adkins, Ten Times Better ($3.40) is trained by Keith Bourgeois. Guy Smith, who made the journey down from Louisiana Downs where he had ridden earlier in the day, rode him to victory. The win was the second in three starts for the altered son of Finest Hour, who had won his trial by a dozen lengths June 13. The final time was 59.40 seconds over a sloppy track.
