Evangeline Downs stewards disqualify wrong horse

Email

OPELOUSAS, La. – In a case of mistaken identity, Evangeline Downs’s stewards disqualified the wrong horse in Thursday night’s fourth race. The matter was quickly rectified, but not before resulting in a second superfecta payoff.

During the stretch run of the 5 1/2-furlong, $5,000 claiming affair, the stewards misidentified Our Katie, with Tyler Woodley aboard, as the aggressor in an incident that forced Terrific Indy to steady in tight quarters along the rail. The culprit was actually Brahm’s Diva, with Kirk LeBlanc up. Our Katie was originally disqualified from fourth and placed seventh. The disqualification moved Brahm’s Diva up to fourth, completing the 7-6-8-3 superfecta combination.

Shortly after the race was declared official, the stewards realized the error. Our Katie was reinstated to fourth for purse distribution purposes only and Brahm’s Diva was subsequently disqualified from fifth and placed seventh. A second superfecta of 7-6-8-5 was paid and returned $36.61 for the minimum wager of 10 cents.
