OPELOUSAS, La. – A total of 23 races worth a combined $1.72 million will make up this season’s stakes schedule at Evangeline Downs. The 84-day stand gets under way April 18 and will once again be highlighted by Louisiana Legends Night on June 30. The Legends program will feature eight stakes restricted to Louisiana-breds and has historcially proven to be the season’s biggest evening.
Other major events during the season include both divisions of the rich D.S. "Shine’ Young Futurity as well as the Evangeline Mile. Previously contested on Legends Night, the "Shine" has been moved to July 28. The $125,000 Evangline Mile, the season’s top event in the handicap division, will be run Aug. 11.
* Stall applications are available on the Evangeline Downs web site. The deadline for applications is March 8.
