Evangeline Downs: 'Prince' streaking

Email

LAFAYETTE, La. - Riders and trainers continued to win races in bunches last week at Evangeline Downs. The streakiest of all, though, was a colt named Lota Prince, who was a maiden when the Evangeline meet began a month ago.

Lota Prince won for the third time in as many local starts in Saturday night's B. B. "Sixty" Rayburn Stakes.

Lota Prince's ($11) victory was the third of the night for jockey Jason Trevort.

Rider Casey Fusiler, who arrived from Lone Star Park after the current stand began, booted home the early double with Hesasurgeon ($5.80) and Sako Oki'kaa ($5.40), and also won with Lady Victoria ($7.20) in the ninth race.

Not to be outdone by Trevort and Fusiler's feats, Logan Cormier and Rex Stokes did one better. Cormier won four races Friday, while Stokes's big night came Monday.

The leading trainer at Evangeline, Keith Bourgeois, padded his margin on Friday night, sending out three winners.
