Evangeline Downs: Miss Addison gets first stakes win in Matron

OPELOUSAS, La. – Miss Addison picked up her first stakes win in Saturday night’s $50,000 Matron at Evangeline Downs. Pacesetter and favorite Little Polka Dot finished 1 1/2 lengths back in second, followed by Burning Creole.

Under patient handling by Richard Eramia, Miss Addison ($13.40) tracked the early pace while saving ground. Waiting until just the right instant approaching the furlong grounds, Eramia slipped through a narrow opening along the inside to challenge and then slowly edged clear. The final time for the one-mile turf affair for fillies and mares was 1:36.42 over firm going.

"She was nice and relaxed the whole way," Eramia said. "I wasn’t sure if a hole was going to open up, but one finally did along the rail in midstretch, and she went right on through for me and won going away."

The winner is a 6-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Orientate. Ron Faucheux trains her for Evelyn Benoit’s Brittlyn Stable. The win capped a big day for Faucheux, who had sent out two winners during the afternoon at Louisiana Downs. Miss Addison’s career bankroll improved to $121,000 with the win.
