Evangeline Downs: Lattin Devil scores in Ragin Cajun Stakes

OPELOUSAS, La. – Controlling the pace throughout under kind handling by Donnie Meche, Lattin Devil cruised home to win Saturday night’s $50,000 Ragin Cajun Stakes at Evangeline Downs. It was 3 1/2 lengths back to Warren’s Rebel in second and another head to Don’t Be Mad in third.

The final time for the seven-furlong affair for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds was 1:22.81 over a fast track.

"He broke nice and smooth tonight and was very relaxed," Meche said. "I kept him on the outside so he would stay comfortable. I had plenty of horse underneath me, and when I asked him to run, he spurted away. It was a pretty easy win, all things considered."

Lattin Devil ($4) picked up his second stakes victory of the meeting for trainer Jorge Lara. The son of Latent Heat set a track record for six furlongs in winning the Inaugural Stakes on opening night in April. The win was his fourth in seven starts, and he has now earned just under $135,000.
