Evangeline Downs, Breeders’ Sales Company of Louisiana to hold Stars of Tomorrow juvenile sale

Evangeline Downs, in conjunction with the Breeders’ Sales Company of Louisiana, will host the Stars of Tomorrow 2-year-olds in training sale Sunday, March 9 at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La.

The one-day sale will begin at 10 a.m. Central, with the pre-sale under-tack show scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at the racetrack starting at noon. The sale will be administered by Stemmans, Inc.

“This sale has become a mainstay for the local racing industry and we look forward to it each year at Evangeline Downs,” said Chris Warren, director of racing operations for Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs. “We are proud to offer the only 2-year-olds in training sale in the state. Our facilities include a spacious and comfortable event center that is conveniently located next to the racing paddock and our hotel which works nicely for this event.”

Evangeline Downs will offer a pair of six furlong open-bred stakes races for 2-year-olds for a purse of $100,000, with a $25,000 bonus and preferred entry to graduates of the Stars of Tomorrow sale. The Evangeline Downs Star will be for colts and geldings, while the Evangeline Downs Starlet will be restricted to fillies.

The deadline for entry in the Stars of Tomorrow sale is Jan. 13, with a fee of $350 with a five percent commission ($300 minimum). Late entries will be accepted for a fee of $500 with the same commission fee structure.
