Filly and mare turf specialists have the spotlight Saturday night at Evangeline Downs for the $50,000 Matron Stakes. A competitive field of 10, including an entry, have been entered for the one-mile headliner that will go as the ninth of 10 races.

Trainer Pat Devereux will send out the one-two combination of Touch Magic and Little Polka Dot. Both are stakes winners and each has been enjoying solid campaigns thus far in 2013.

Touch Magic took the Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds earlier this year and ran in the Grade 3 Eight Belles Stakes on the Kentucky Oaks undercard in early May. In her most recent start, the 3-year-old Touch Magic finished third as the favorite in the Panthers Stakes at Prairie Meadows on June 1. The Matron will be her first start on grass.

The 7-year-old Little Polka Dot will be making her 33rd career start in the Matron and comes off a near- miss in the Opelousas Stakes on May 25. She sports a 2-4-1 career mark in 9 turf tries.

Devereux has given the call on both halves of the entry to leading rider Diego Saenz.

Silent Legacy will attempt to extend her winning streak to three after winning the Opelousas as well as an optional starter allowance. Trained by Corale Richards, Silent Legacy has won 3 of her 4 local turf starts. Kirk LeBlanc will once again be in the saddle.
