Europeans dominate BC Futures

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - European-based horses continued to command the most attention as action wound down Saturday on the second Breeders' Cup futures pool.

The second of three futures pools this summer consists of the three Breeders' Cup turf events, , and European horses were favored in two of the three races. By late Saturday afternoon the Irish-based colt High Chapparal had taken over favoritism in the Turf from Beat Hollow, the leading American runner. High Chapparal, a multiple Group 1 winner who is unbeaten in four races this season was 3-1, while Beat Hollow, the favorite for Saturday's Arlington Million, was 4-1.

Rock of Gibraltar, Europe's best miler, held strong as a heavy favorite in the Mile, though his price had drifted up from 3-5 Saturday morning to 3-2. Keltos, another top European miler, took betting action Saturday and was the second choice at 9-1.

Americans were more highly regarded in the Filly and Mare Turf. Astra was a 9-2 favorite over the 5-1 Golden Apples, with England's Legend third choice at 7-1. All three fillies run Saturday in the Beverly D. at Arlington.

In all, just less than $28,000 had been bet into the futures pool.
