Europe: Islington makes amends

LONDON - Islington, eighth as the second favorite for the Epsom Oaks, came back to her best with an easy four-length win in the Group 1 Vodafone Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Kieren Fallon sent her to the front inside the final quarter-mile and only had to push her clear. She was at least five lengths ahead inside the final furlong and her rider was able to relax close to home.

A daughter of Sadler's Wells, Islington ran the 1 1/4 miles in 2:04.69 to cap a remarkable few days for the Weinstock family and trainer Sir Michael Stoute. Lord Weinstock died, aged 77, on July 23. Golan took the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes in his colors four days later.

Sulk, a 33-1 chance, stayed on for second in front of Quarter Moon, runner-up in both the Epsom and Irish Oaks. The first three are all out of mares by Darshaan, who beat Sadler's Wells and Rainbow Quest in the 1984 French Derby.
