Europe: Indesatchel takes Greenham

Indesatchel earned a late-running one-length victory over Johnny Jumpup in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Sent from Ireland by trainer David Wachman for his first race away from home, Indesatchel came from behind under Jamie Spencer to earn a spot in the 2000 Guineas lineup at Newmarket on April 30. The even-money choice, Indesatchel covered the straight seven furlongs in 1:29.24 on good to soft ground.

While Indesatchel, a son of Danehill Dancer, is an improving sort, he does not appear to be a major threat to current Guineas favorite Dubawi, who is listed by Ladbrokes at 5-4 for the mile classic.

Newbury's 1000 Guineas prep, the seven-furlong Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes was, like the Greenham, a subpar race. The winner was Penekenna Princess, who held on gamely under Seb Sanders at 7-2 to defeat longshot Royal Alchemist, with Echelon a neck farther behind in third. The winning time was 1:30.32.

A most promising effort was provided by the victorious Day Flight in the 1 1/2-mile Group 3 John Porter Stakes. A close fourth in last year's French Derby in just the third start of his career, Day Flight made it 2 for 2 in 2005 with a three-quarter-length tally over Frank Sonata as the 9-4 favorite in a 13-runner field that included Group 2 winner Bandari and Group 3 winners Maraahel and Asian Heights.
