Europe: Falbrav wins Group 1

Falbrav rewarded his new trainer, Luca Cumani, with a Group 1 victory in the Prix d'Ispahan Sunday.

With Kieren Fallon aboard, the 3-1 Falbrav had no trouble holding off Bright Sky, the 7-5 favorite, who was making her first start since finishing nine lengths behind Falbrav in Japan in November. The time for the 1 1/8 miles, 55 yards on good ground was 1:51. Bright Sky will challenge Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad at Royal Ascot in the 1 1/4-mile Prince of Wales's Stakes.

Cumani, however, has not decided on Falbrav's next race.

* Fidelite's victory in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary has propelled the In The Wings filly into the French Oaks at Chantilly on June 9. Her 10-1 win over Godolphin's 3-2 favorite Hi Dubai was a great improvement over her previous effort when she was fourth in the Prix Vanteaux behind Campsie Fells. Trained by Criquette Head-Maarek and ridden by Olivier Peslier, Fidelite completed 1 1/4 miles in 2:06.30.

Hi Dubai will return to England for the English Oaks at Epsom June 6.

* Meridiana won the Italian Oaks at San Siro in Milan on Sunday, defeating Godolphin's Lady Catherine by 1 1/4 lengths while getting the 1 3/8 miles in 2:15.40 on good to firm ground. She will run next in the German Oaks at Mulheim June 8.
