The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority has hired Deidre Huff, a University of Auburn graduate, as a staff veterinarian beginning May 3. Huff will fill one of two vacancies for veterinarians at the racing authority. . . . Woodbine canceled racing after the sixth race Sunday because of poor track conditions caused by heavy rain over the weekend. The Star Shoot Stakes was rescheduled for Sunday, and racing is scheduled to resume Friday. . . . . The first race at Fonner Park on Saturday was declared a no contest following a spill entering the first turn of a three-turn mile and 70-yard race. Apprentice Preto Espindola was thrown from his mount, but after examination at a local hospital was expected to resume riding this week.
