Beulah Park, the racetrack outside of Cleveland, has joined the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. Beulah is the majority owner of AmericaTab, a national account-wagering service. . . . Hawthorne Racecourse near Chicago has signed an exclusive agreement with Television Games Network granting the account-wagering broadcast rights to the track's signal to TVG, which licenses many of its exclusive tracks to competing account-wagering providers. . . . A professor of physiology at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Howard K. Erickson, has been awarded a $75,000 grant by the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, and the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium to conduct research on the effectiveness of aminocaproic acid and conjugated estrogens in treating bleeding in the lungs of racehorses. The two substances are increasingly being used by horsemen to treat bleeding, although no studies have been conducted to determine their effectiveness. . . . A fund-raiser called the Belmont Bash, hosted by the New York Racing Association and The Jockey Club, to benefit Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation and World Hunger Year, will be held Thursday, June 8, at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. Tickets for the event, which will feature cocktails, dinner, an auction, and a concert by Beatles tribute band The Fab Faux, are $350. . . . The Don MacBeth Fund will host a celebrity team penning event, with actor and comedian Tim Conway as emcee, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., on April 11 to raise money for injured and disabled jockeys.
