A record 16,183 foals were nominated to the Breeders' Cup in 2005, the Breeders' Cup Ltd. announced on Thursday, a 1.5 percent increase over the number of nominations in 2004. The nominations, which typically cost $500 per foal, produced a record $8,214,000 in revenue to the organization, the Breeders' Cup said. . . . The director of marketing, sales, and pubic relations at Prairie Meadows, Tom Manning, resigned from that post on Wednesday. Manning's resignation, effective Feb. 13, follows that of the track's chief executive, Bob Farinella, and the firing of its director of human resources, Steve Hansen, within the past month.
