Kitten's First, the 15-year-old dam of 2004 champion turf horse Kitten's Joy, was euthanized Friday in Lexington, Ky., when she foundered after a bout with enteritis, according to Ramsey Farm. A Lear Fan-That's My Hon mare, Kitten's First had been in foal to El Prado, the sire of Kitten's Joy, and her final foal is a 2-year-old filly by Catienus. . . . Any horse who finishes sixth or worse in a stakes race at the Churchill Downs spring meet - with the exception of the Kentucky Derby - will receive 1 percent of the purse, the track announced Tuesday. The 1 percent payoffs will come from the gross purse, including added money, with the remaining total distributed to the first- through fifth-place finishers on the customary percentage basis.
