Rebel Rebel, runner-up in the 2000 Guineas Stakes, has been purchased from his British owners at Six Star Racing by an as-yet-unidentified American and is scheduled to arrive at Bobby Frankel's Belmont Park barn Tuesday. Frankel is aiming him at the 1 1/4-mile, Grade 3 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs on July 16. . . . Thoroughbred racing is represented in three categories for this year's ESPY Awards. Jerry Bailey, Javier Castellano, Jeremy Rose, and Mike Smith are nominated for the best jockey award, Afleet Alex's Preakness near-fall and victory is a nominee for best moment, and Giacomo's Kentucky Derby victory is up for best upset. . . . Carlos Rivas won his 2,000th race when he guided Panchita Villa to victory in Thursday's seventh race at Ruidoso Downs.
