Jim Gagliano, the former executive vice president for Maryland racing operations at Magna Entertainment Corp., has accepted the position of chief administrative officer for The Jockey Club, the organization announced on Monday. According to a Jockey Club release, Gagliano will be based in New York City and be responsible for overseeing the "administrative activities" of The Jockey Club. . . . Jockey Weldon Cloninger Jr. recorded his 1,000th career victory Saturday at Thistledown when he guided Lac Grape to victory in the third race. Cloninger began his riding career at Louisiana Downs in 1992.
