Etc. . . .

Karen's Caper came with a late rush to win the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday and will head to the 1000 Guineas on May 1 in preference to the Kentucky Oaks. Karen's Caper, 7-1, defeated the 7-2 favorite, Cape Columbine, by three-quarters of a length, covering the straight seven furlongs in 1:24.72 in her first start on turf. . . . Fairmount Park's top trainer-jockey pairing, Ralph Martinez and Ramsey Zimmerman, combined for four victories at the track Tuesday, the third time in the past week that Zimmerman has ridden at least four winners. All of his winning mounts from Tuesday are owned by Louis D. O'Brien.
