With a sale-topping $1.57 million mare as part of Vinery Australia's dispersal, the William Inglis and Son auction house in Australia set sale records at its April 3-5 broodmare auction in Sydney. The auction grossed a record of about $37,989,529, besting 2002's previous record, and set a record average price of approximately $61,671. . . . A $110,000 Valid Expectations colt out of It Fits, by Dunham's Gift, led the one-day Fasig-Tipton Texas juvenile sale at its midpoint late Tuesday afternoon. Lane's End Texas purchased the colt, a half-brother to stakes-placed Hellohellohello, from Leprechaun Racing, agent, at the auction at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. . . . Acatenango, the German Horse of the Year in 1985 and 1987 and leading German sire in 1993, 1995, and 1997, was euthanized April 2 at age 23 after a paddock accident at Gestut Fahrhof, the Racing Post reported. Acatenango's top runners include champions Lando, who won the 1995 Japan Cup, and Borgia, runner-up in the 1997 Breeders' Cup Turf. . . .Woodbine's main track opened for training Tuesday morning, and 90 horses were clocked over fast going. The track's 2005 meeting is scheduled to begin April 16.
