Etc. . . .

The Minnesota House Gaming Division, a legislative committee, passed a bill Friday that would allow for slot machines at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn., along with another bill that would allow for a Native American-owned casino near Minneapolis-St. Paul. Both bills will face their stiffest opposition in the Senate, which has historically been opposed to expanded gambling in the state. . . . The Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Japan Racing Association have entered into partnership to create the two-race Asian Mile Challenge, consisting of the Group 1, $1.02 million Champions Mile - open to international competition for the first time - at Sha Tin on May 14 and the Group 1, $1.7 million Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo on June 5. A horse who wins both races will receive a bonus of $1 million. . . . Jockey Joe A. Martinez won his 2,000th race when he rode Roll on Retsina ($6.40) to victory in the sixth race Sunday at Sunland Park. Martinez notched victory number 2,001 aboard R Babe ($7) in the card's 12th race.
