Yard-Arm won the Group 3, $200,000 Al Fahidi Fort by 1 1/4 lengths at Nad Al Sheba on Friday night. Checkit was second and Latino Magic a neck farther back in third in the one-mile turf race . . . At Sha Tin on Friday night, Scintillation (4-1) won the Group 1, $1.025 million Hong Kong Classic Mile by a head over Sambuca. . . . Harry Schmidt Jr., the longtime broodmare manager at Spendthrift Farm, died Tuesday in Lexington at age 81. Schmidt was farm manager at Spendthrift from 1952 to 1976 and later was broodmare manager for Windhaven Farm. . . . William K. Taylor, a longtime farm manager in central Kentucky, died Tuesday in Lexington at age 87. Taylor was the manager of Claiborne Farm from 1957 to 1975, then later general manager of Bluegrass Farm. . . . A benefit dinner for exercise rider Rob Burton, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, is to be held at BT's Lounge on South Locust Street in Grand Island, Neb., following the Fonner Park races Sunday.
