Laurel Park drew a crowd of 5,036 on Wednesday when it reopened for racing following a 10-month break to renovate and enlarge its main track and modernize its grandstand. Laurel had been scheduled to reopen last Saturday but canceled its weekend programs because of a winter snowstorm in the Northeast. . . . Nelson W. Crews, a trainer on the mid-Atlantic circuit, died Monday at age 46, the result of injuries sustained in an expolsion in his Oxford, Pa., home on Jan. 6. He is survived by his wife and two children.
