Canadian horse of the year Alywow, the 10-year-old dam of stakes winner Hidden Cat and two sales-toppers at Ireland's Goffs Orby sale in recent years, has a life-threatening bone infection and is in a veterinary hospital in Ireland, The Racing Post reported Monday. . . . A $544,484 Royal Academy colt out of Zitkala (Regal Classic) brought the sale-topping price at Saturday's Pearls of Dubai sale in the United Arab Emirates; the auction, which sold 53 Northern Hemisphere juveniles and Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds, averaged $79,772. Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, son of Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum, purchased the sale-topper. . . . Hoosier Park's leading rider, Terry Thompson, equaled a Hoosier record Saturday night, collecting six wins from nine mounts on the 11-race card. . . . James "J.D." King, a longtime trainer and well known horsemen in Indiana, died Friday at age 63 following a brief illness. King trained horses on the Florida, Kentucky, and Indiana circuits up to the time of his death and operated farms in Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Wildwood, Fla.
