Pimlico will serve as the North American wagering hub for two Group 1 stakes that will be simulcast from Uruguay on Jan. 6. The races are the 1 1/2-mile Ramirez, one of South America's most important classics since 1889, and the Gran Premio Pedro Pineyrua, Uruguay's top event for milers. . . . The new Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., will open its racing surface for training on Wednesday, with a Quarter Horse meet to start on Feb. 5. . . . Extreme winter weather caused Philadelphia Park and Thistledown to cancel live racing programs Monday. . . . Magna Entertainment Corp. will not renew its lease of Multnomah Greyhound Park in Portland, Ore., when it expires Friday night, thus ending racing at the facility. Magna has operated it since October 2001. . . . Barbara Brewer, Thomas J. Gallo III, and Michael McMahon were re-elected to two-year terms, and Stephen DiMauro and Harry Landry were newly elected on the board of directors for the New York Thoroughbred Breeders Inc.
