Friends of injured jockey Tony D'Amico raised $10,000 to help with his medical expenses at a benefit hosted by Furlongs Restaurant in Louisville, Ky., on Monday. One of the sale-topping auction items, a Personal Ensign halter donated by fellow rider Robby Albarado, was purchased by jockey Willie Martinez for $1,550. . . . The New England Turf Writers Association has announced its champions for 2004: 2-year-old colt, Three and Two; 2-year-old filly, Cape Cod Rose; 3-year-old colt and top New England-bred, Senor Ladd; 3-year-old filly, Lady Beelzebub; older male and older turf male, Milky Way Guy; older female, Quick Smoke; sprinter, Senor Ladd; and turf female, Laredo Lil. The winner of the James B. Moseley Award for Horse of the Year will be announced at the group's awards dinner in the spring at Suffolk Downs.
