Turfway Park canceled racing Friday evening because of extreme cold. The track will run 12 races on Fridays beginning Feb. 6, two more than usual, to help make up the lost races. . . . Quincy Hamilton, the leading apprentice at Sam Houston Race Park, will leave the track on Sunday to ride regularly at Laurel, where he will be represented by agent Jay Rushing. Hamilton, 20, won the first race of his career on Nov. 6 at Sam Houston. . . . Delta Downs canceled its card after the second of 11 scheduled races Thursday night, citing unsafe track conditions caused by heavy rain. . . . Finger Lakes racetrack has delayed the opening of its video lottery area by a week, to Feb. 18. The track cited harsh weather as causing construction and wiring delays. . . . Valerie Hinson, a handicapping tournament veteran, died Wednesday at age 49 at her home in Germantown, Tenn., after a long bout with cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that any donations be sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
