Gimmeawink ($7.20) made up a three-length deficit in the final eighth-mile Tuesday at Mountaineer to win the $78,000 Sophomore Sprint Championship at six furlongs. Gimmeawink was all out to overtake Franchise Player by a half-length in a final time on a fast track of 1:11.82. . . . Pat Eddery, Britain's champion rider 11 times, was honored with the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Charitable Trust Award for a lifetime's contribution to the sport of horse racing Wednesday in London. Eddery, 51, joins Vincent O'Brien, Lester Piggott, and the Queen Mother as a winner of the award. . . . The total handle on opening day of Sunland Park's 80-day meeting Tuesday increased 132 percent over last year's opener, and ontrack handle increased 19 percent. A total of $1,391,251 was bet on Sunland's races Tuesday, the highest opening-day handle in the 45-year history of the track.
