Etc. . . .

Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La., will be unable to reactivate its 34 video poker machines any time in the near future after a Baton Rouge, La., district court denied the track's request for an injunction and ruled in favor of the state police on Wednesday. Louisiana state police unplugged the machines, which produce more than $50,000 a month for purses at the track, on July 20 after a dispute arose over missing signatures on the track's renewal application. . . . The Massachusetts legislature passed an extension of the state's racing law on Tuesday, allowing tracks to continue simulcasting until the end of September. . . . The New Jersey Racing Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a plan for Greenwood Racing Inc. to buy Atlantic City Race Course for $13 million. The sale is still subject to certain conditions, and officials of both tracks said this week it could close by the end of September.
