Refuse to Bend, winner of the 2000 Guineas and a candidate for the Breeders' Cup Mile, has been bought by Sheikh Mohammed but will race for the rest of the year for his former owner, Walter Haefner of Moyglare Stud, under the training of Dermot Weld. Refuse to Bend finished 11th of 14 in his latest start, the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. . . . The Ontario division of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association has elected an 11-member board of directors. The board comprises six owners - Conrad Cohen, Sam Lima, Lynne Hindmarsh, Gerry Belanger, Bill Diamant, and Kelly Regan - and five trainers - Ralph Biamonte, Scott Fairlie, John Charalambous, Bruce Pollock, and Sue Leslie - who will serve three-year terms beginning Sept. 25. . . . Following a meeting with jockeys, Fort Erie officials canceled Tuesday's 10-race card because of unsafe track conditions after Monday's card was run in muddy and sloppy going. Racing was scheduled to resume Saturday.
