Marvin Sugarman, a pioneer in syndicated sports programming who in 1974 produced Thoroughbred racing's first major television replay shows - "Racing from Aqueduct" and "Racing from Belmont" - died at his home in Roslyn Heights, N.Y., on July 20. He was 87 and best known for creating "Captain Kangaroo," the long-running children's show. . . . A partnership of Team Valor, William Heiligbrodt, Richard Masson, and Denali Stud, has purchased River Belle, winner of the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on July 26. A British-bred 2-year-old daughter of Lahi who is unbeaten after two starts, having won a six-furlong Ascot maiden race in her debut, River Belle will remain with trainer Alan Jarvis and be aimed at the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood on Aug. 24 and the Group 1 Fillies Mile at Ascot on Sept. 27.
