Magna Entertainment Corp., the largest racetrack operator in the United States, will sell $100 million in bonds bearing 8.85 percent interest to raise cash for general corporate purposes and capital expenditures, the company said Wednesday. The offering will raise approximately $96.5 million after fees, Magna reported. . . . The final betting total on this year's Preakness Stakes was $41,620,145, including separate pool betting, according to the Maryland Jockey Club. The total handle on the race was down 12.7 percent from last year's record handle of $47,695,192. . . . Barclay Tagg, trainer of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide, will be the judge of this year's champion Maryland-bred yearling. Tagg, who began training horses in Maryland during the 1970's and was based there until moving his base of operations to New York in 2002, will preside at Maryland's annual yearling show at the state fairgrounds in Timonium on Sunday, June 29. . . . Jesse R. Adams, president of a real estate and tax consultation company, has been appointed to the Texas Racing Commission by Gov. Rick Perry. His term will run through 2009.
