Olympic Express came wide from post 13 to win the $1.025 million Hong Kong Gold Cup by a neck from Dr More at Sha Tin on Sunday, getting the 1 1/4 miles in 2:02.90 on ground labeled good to firm, with the Hong Kong Cup winner, Precision, 5 3/4 lengths behind in seventh. Olympic Express will be pointed to the $1.8 million 1 1/4-mile Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin on April 27. . . . The Grade 2, $500,000 Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park has attracted 142 nominations, a 31 percent increase over last year, when 108 3-year-olds were nominated. Sky Mesa and Toccet are among the top horses eligible to the 1 1/8-mile race, which will be run March 22, six weeks before the Kentucky Derby. . . . Groundbreaking for Evangeline Downs's slots casino will be held in Opelousas, La., on Wednesday. The track, located 15 minutes north in Carencro, La., must move its racing operations to Opelousas, where voters passed slots, within two years.
