Teddy Drone, a sprinting fixture at Northeastern racetracks from 1988 to 1995, was euthanized in Imlaystown, N.J., Jan. 27 at age 18 after developing complications related to founder. Teddy Drone won eight stakes and finished second or third in 17 others and retired at age 10 with earnings of more than $833,000. . . . Slewsbox, a multiple stakes winning sprinter, died Tuesday during emergency surgery for colic at the University of California at Davis. A 6-year-old mare trained by Chuck Peery, Slewsbox won 9 of 14 starts, including five stakes in a row from September 2000 to September 2001. . . . Damon Thayer, a vice president of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and a former publicity official at Turfway Park, was elected to the Kentucky state senate in a special election Tuesday. Thayer, a Republican, will represent the 17th district, which comprises three north-central Kentucky counties and part of another.
