Etc. . . .

Val's Prince, winner of the 1999 Turf Classic Invitational and Man o' War as well as the 1997 Hong Kong Cup, died Sunday night at the age of 15 because of a case of colic. He won 13 of 52 starts and earned $2,118,785. . . . Jockey Winston Thompson was injured during Sunday's second race at Suffolk Downs when his mount was bumped and stumbled leaving the starting gate. Thompson broke his ankle and will be out at least two months, according to his agent, Max Hall.
