Jockey Paul Nolan, 45, earned his 1,000th career victory on Saturday, when he guided Hurricane Bernie ($21.40) to a three-length win in the Canterbury Park Lassie Stakes. . . . Richard Tedesco on Monday was named the new track maintenance superintendent at Santa Anita, which is installing a synthetic racing surface in time for its fall Oak Tree meeting, which begins Sept. 26. Tedesco, a former track superintendent at Hollywood Park and Los Alamitos, replaces Steve Wood, who resigned by mutual agreement last week. . . . The ninth and final race at Louisiana Downs on Sunday was declared a no-contest by the stewards after only three of the 11 stall doors opened. All single-race wagers on the event were refunded, while daily double, pick three, pick four, and pick six wagers scheduled to conclude with the ninth race paid off on all runners. . . . Trainer Aidan O'Brien has taken his Irish Derby winner Soldier of Fortune out of Saturday's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. O'Brien still has three of the eight remaining horses in the 1 1/2-mile Group 1 race, with Dylan Thomas, Scorpion, and Yellowstone.
