Golden Gate Fields will conduct its final day of training July 22 before installation of its new synthetic surface. Arrangements have been made for horses normally stabled at Golden Gate Fields to be stabled at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, the Solano County Fair in Vallejo, and Bay Meadows while the surface is being installed. . . . . Delaware Park canceled its scheduled 10-race card Monday because of extreme heat. Racing was scheduled to resume Tuesday, but the forecast called for continued oppressive conditions . . . . Jockey Brian Long won his 1,000th race on Saturday when Messner Mine ($3.80) won the second race at Les Bois Park. . . .Two major overseas auction houses, Irish-based Goffs and England's Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, will merge to become one of Europe's largest equine sale companies. Both companies will retain individual names, planning to conduct 22 sales annually with an expected $272 million in annual gross.
