The purses for the two juvenile races on the Maryland Million Day card - the Maryland Million Lassie and Nursery - have been raised by $25,000 each, to $150,000 for this year's running. Total purses for the Oct. 13 Maryland Million Day program at Laurel Park will exceed $1.7 million. . . . Prominent Iowa horseman Franklin Davenport, who along with his wife, Alpha, bred, owned, and trained numerous Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses when Prairie Meadows first opened in 1989, died of cancer May 30 at age 73. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at Prairie Meadows. . . . Jockey Eddie Castro rode five winners on Wednesday's nine-race card at Monmouth Park. Castro's victories included both halves of the early double, which paid $14.20, and the day's allowance feature, won by Hopes and Dreams ($4.20).
