Milton Feldman, a longtime racing publicist, died Wednesday at age 89. Feldman worked throughout the Midatlantic region, including stints at Atlantic City, Bowie, Garden State, Havre de Grace, Hialeah, Laurel, Monmouth, Pimlico, and Sunshine Park (now Tampa Bay Downs). . . . Peppy Pielago, a Thoroughbred owner and breeder over five decades whose runners included stakes-winning mare Peppy's Lucky Girl, died Monday at his home in Ranch Palos Verdes, Calif. He was 81. . . . The Texas Racing Commission voted Wednesday to enable the state's Class 3 and Class 4 tracks, or fair tracks, to simulcast races from other jurisdictions provided they meet certain criteria and receive permission from the commission, opening up a rule that had restricted simulcast racing to fair tracks in operation for at least 25 years. Also at the meeting, the TRC opened the application period for a Class 2 or Class 3 parimutuel license in Webb County, which includes Laredo, from Sept. 1 to Oct. 30. . . . The Maryland Racing Commission approved the state's racing dates through the end of the year on Wednesday. Pimlico will hold a 13-day summer meet from Aug. 8 to Aug. 24, The Maryland State Fair meet will run at Timonium from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3, and the state's Thoroughbred circuit returns to Laurel on Sept. 6 for the remainder of the year.
