Etc. . . .

Beginning this weekend, the Magna 5 - a $2 pick five with a guaranteed pool of $500,000 that is offered each Saturday on races run at Magna-owned tracks - will be available in Canada, with both Woodbine and Hastings among the tracks that will offer the wager. Canada began betting into Maryland pools in 2006, and Laurel is the hub of the Magna 5. . . . Rosie Napravnik was taken to Laurel-Beltsville Hospital for X-rays of her lower back, and Ryan Fogelsonger took off the remainder of his Friday mounts after they were thrown to the ground in a spill a furlong past the finish of the sixth race at Laurel. Napravnik's mount, which finished second, fell, and Fogelsonger's horse could not avoid the fallen animal.
