Trainer Larry Jones said Sunday that Friesan Fire, who finished next to last as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby and then 10th in the Preakness, will be pointed to the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug. 2, according to a Monmouth press release. "That's the number one target, the Haskell," said Jones, who saddled Hard Spun to a runner-up performance in the 2007 running of the race. . . . Jockey Manoel R. Cruz won his 2,000th race Sunday aboard Catch Rikki ($3.20) in the seventh race at Calder. . . . Roberto Alvarado Jr. won his 2,000th career win with Taleitlikeiain't ($3.20) in Monday's seventh race at Philadelphia Park. . . . Jockey John B. Luzzi won his 1,000th race Sunday with Stay in Canada ($3.40) in the second race at Charles Town. . . . The Fasig-Tipton Company auction house has hired former Darley stallion department employee Reed Ringler, who will join Fasig-Tipton's marketing team in Lexington, Ky., in July. Fasig-Tipton's marketing director, Terence Collier, said one of Ringler's duties will be assisting Collier in domestic and international client management.
