Jockey John McKee won his 1,000th race Sunday on Bid Made ($5.20) in the eighth race at Turfway Park. . . . Mario Padovani, a trainer on the New York and Florida circuits from the 1940s through the 1960s, died March 19 at a hospice in Ocala, Fla. He was 96. . . . Imagina scored a nine-length victory in Saturday's $75,000 Carolina Cup, the first leg of the Steeplechase Triple Crown, at Springdale Race Course in South Carolina. A 6-year-old Chilean-bred mare trained by Sanna Hendriks and ridden by Jody Petty, Imagina covered the 2 1/8 miles and 10 fences in 4:06.80, with Red Letter Day rallying late for second. . . . King of the Roxy has been selected as the 2007 Ohio horse of the year by the Ohio Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. Trained by Todd Pletcher, King of the Roxy won the Grade 2 Hutcheson at Gulfstream last year and finished second in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby and Grade 3 Barbaro at Delaware Park. . . . Car Keys, a 9-year-old gelding, and Eight by Ten, a 2-year-old gelding, were named 2007 horses of the year by the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society, which honors the top competitors at Assiniboia Downs.
