Etc. . . .

Meurice, the Australian 2-year-old champion purchased by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stable for $10.8 million, was euthanized after breaking his left shoulder during a gallop at Randwick racecourse on Wednesday. Meurice was bought by Darley after his victory in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in April, the last time he was able to run because of the Australian outbreak of equine influenza. . . . Beulah Park canceled after the fourth race Friday because of the track's condition. Rainfall on the frozen track made it sloppy, and the jockeys deemed the surface unsafe.
