Etc. . . .

Gary Stevens, the retired Hall of Fame Jockey, has been named by International Equine Acquisitions Holdings Inc. as its senior adviser for racing and bloodstock affairs, the company said in a release Thursday. Stevens’s duties will include being corporate spokesman. . . . Buddy LeRoux, a controversial New England sports figure who once owned Suffolk Downs, died Monday at age 77, the Boston Herald reported. LeRoux, who at one time also headed a partnership that owned the Boston Red Sox, purchased Suffolk Down in 1986 but was beset by financial problems and in 1989 closed the track, which remained shut for more than two years.
