Scrappy T, who was second to Afleet Alex in the 2005 Preakness, finished fourth off a 25-month layoff in an allowance race Wednesday at Laurel Park. The seven-furlong race was won in wire-to-wire fashion by Happy Surprise, with Scrappy T 15 lengths back. . . . Richland Hills in Midway, Ky., has hired bloodstock adviser Bryan Cross as its director of sales. Cross, previously an employee at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky, had operated Bryan Cross Bloodstock since 2001. At Richland Hills, Cross will head up private and auction sales as well promotion of stallions Purim, Star Dabbler, and Storm Surge, according to farm president Nathan Fox. . . . A memorial service will be held Friday for track photographer Tibor Abahazy, 83, who died recently at his farm in Northville, Mich., after a prolonged illness. The Abahazy family - including his wife, Theresa, and children Tom, Sylvia, Susan, and Steve - has been taking win photos for more than 40 years, primarily at Oaklawn Park, Hollywood Park, and the now shuttered Detroit Race Course.
