Etc. . . .

Xtra Heat, last year's champion 3-year-old filly, will prep for the Breeders' Cup Sprint against males in the Phoenix Breeders' Cup at Keeneland, a Grade 3 race at six furlongs on Oct. 5. . . . Tempest Fugit ($5.20), ridden by Jose Velez Jr., held off a late rally by Full Brush to score a three-quarter-length victory in Tuesday's $59,900 Eight Thirty Stakes at Delaware Park. . . . The Maryland Racing Commission reduced to 15 days the suspensions Tuesday of two trainers, Jerry Robb (who had been banned 60 days) and Mark Shuman (given 40 days), for postrace positives of the illegal drug guanabenz, used to treat hypertension. Both had horses test positive out of races on April 13, while the other positives were after races on April 17, 18, and 19, and commissioners agreed that the trainers could have scratched the other horses if they had been immediately notified of the earliest guanabenz positive. . . . Handpainted, who closed at 30-1 in last weekend's future pool for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, injured her left hind leg during her second-place finish in Saturday's Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine and is out for the season. Handpainted, trained by Josie Carroll, had won her first three starts, including Woodbine's My Dear and Ontario Debutante.
