Graded stakes winner E Dubai, the Godophin-owned colt who is pointing for the Sept. 28 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont, will retire at the end of the season to stand at Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum's Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Godolphin announced Monday. Darley Stud, the sheikh's stallion operation, has not yet announced a stud fee for E Dubai, a 4-year-old Mr. Prospector colt. . . . Zafonic, 12, Horse of the Year in England in 1983, died on Saturday at Arrowfield Stud in New South Wales, Australia, after running head-first into a paddock gate and breaking his neck, Australian newspapers have reported. Zafonic, winner of the 1993 2000 Guineas, has sired 26 stakes winners.
